Biography
Steve's musical career started at the age of nine when he started learning piano and drums. This led to him enrolling at the Royal Academy of Music to study orchestral music, and then on to Guildhall to study jazz and rock.
After graduation, a chance encounter led Steve on his first tour and opened a number of doors...
"I came out of Guildhall and I'd heard that you might land something if you answered adverts in Melody Maker. It was one of those things. I answered one looking for a drummer and it turned out to be Midge Ure and I went on tour with him around the world! With him, I ended up having to learn a whole host of things: bodhran, accordian, guitar, even the penny whistle..."
The late '80s led Steve to a career in pop as MD for various touring acts of the time...
"I played with a lot of the Stock, Aitken and Waterman people like Rick Astley and Kim Appleby, and more recently was Lisa Stansfield's MD and Toured with her. I also did a couple of albums with Midge Ure."
Steve has also worked in film music, working on From Hell starring Johnny Depp, and the Britney Spears film Crossroads. He also played with Sting and Eric Clapton, but as his production and programming experience grew, so did his interest in putting together his own studio, which eventually led to to the creation of The Chapel Studios.
From this base Steve continues to work on varied and interesting projects, and he is defining his own inimitable production style. And just occasionally, you might find him back behind the drumkit...
